RELATIONAL LIVES: CLOSENESS & CONFLICT
A CREATIVE APPROACH TO TALKING & LISTENING WITH OTHERS

Within the context of this training ‘Relational Lives’ is referring to a combination of two people wanting to engage in therapy i.e. a traditional married couple, two parents, same sex couple, parent & child, adult & adolescent, child & adult siblings, two therapists attending clinical supervision.

Suitable for counsellors, psychotherapists, play therapists, psychologists, clinical supervisors & social workers this programme designed to teach the ‘Creative Kite Approach’ will equip & enable you to work with complex dynamics where explicit & hidden conflicts cause difficulties & stuck-ness in being able to open up to alternative ways of relating with others.

The Creative Kite Approach is anchored in object relations theory where containment & emotional holding create the foundations enabling creative skills to be integrated. Embodied techniques to increase relational closeness will be taught whilst simultaneously incorporating motivational approaches to enhance the therapeutic work. Creative mediums such as clay sculpts, miniature figurines & expressive arts exercises will support expression of unspoken underlying difficulties thereby making them accessible to work with.

Chris’ MA is in psychoanalytic Studies. He is a psychotherapist and is currently working with children and young people for Relate, with whom he is a registered practitioner. He also writes and runs workshops, mostly for other therapists, who want to work in ways imbued with psychoanalytic thought and inherent meaning. He runs process groups and occasional workshops for an independent trainer. He is developing a system of working called Soma Stories which is an integration of movement, creativity, drama and reflective practice. This supports his belief in the importance of the body in psychotherapy and using psychodynamic principles to think about this integration. He also believes in the wider involvement of therapists in cultural and political issues.
